Lawrence H. White

Lawrence H. White is a professor of economics at George Mason University. He is a Distinguished Senior Fellow of the F. A. Hayek Program for Advanced Study in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, and a senior scholar with the Cato Institute’s Center for Monetary and Financial Alternatives. He previously taught at New York University, University of Georgia, and University of Missouri-St. Louis. 

Prof. White specializes in the theory and history of banking and money. He is the author of several books and editor of several volumes, including Better Money: Gold, Fiat, or Bitcoin? (Cambridge University Press, 2023), The Clash of Economic Ideas (Cambridge University Press, 2012), and The Theory of Monetary Institutions (Wiley-Blackwell, 1999). His scholarly articles on monetary theory and banking history have appeared in American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking, and other leading professional journals.

Robert Lawson is the director of the Bridwell Institute for Economic Freedom and the Jerome M. Fullinwider Centennial Chair in Economic Freedom in the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. He is a past president of The Association of Private Enterprise Education and a senior fellow with the Fraser Institute. He previously taught at Auburn University, Capital University, and Shawnee State University.

Prof. Lawson is a founding co-author of the Economic Freedom of the World Annual Report (published by Fraser Institute), which presents an economic freedom index for over 160 countries. He has authored or co-authored over 100 academic publications. His research has been cited over 14,000 times according to Google Scholar.

Benjamin Powell is the executive director of the Free Market Institute and a professor of economics in the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration at Texas Tech University. He is a past president of The Association of Private Enterprise Education, and a senior fellow with the Independent Institute. He previously taught at Suffolk University and San Jose State University after earning his Ph.D. in Economics at George Mason University.

Prof. Powell is the author of Out of Poverty: Sweatshops in the Global Economy (Cambridge University Press, 2014) and Wretched Refuse: The Political Economy of Immigration and Institutions (Cambridge University Press, 2020), as well as editor or co-editor of 5 other books. He is author of more than 75 scholarly journal articles and policy studies. His research has been reported in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Economist, and numerous other outlets. He has also published widely in the popular press and appeared on most major TV news networks.

Edward Stringham is Shelby Cullom Davis Professor of American Business and Economic Enterprise and Director of the Shelby Cullom Davis Endowment at Trinity College. He is a past president of The Association of Private Enterprise Education and current Editor of The Journal of Private Enterprise. He previously served as president of American Institute for Economic Research. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics at George Mason University.

Prof. Stringham is the author of Private Governance: Creating Order in Economics and Social Life (Oxford University Press, 2015). He is the editor of two books and author of more than 75 journal articles, book chapters, and policy studies. His research has been discussed on more than 100 broadcast stations, including CBS, CNBC, CNN, CNN Headline News, NPR, and MTV.
